Why do we pray?
Pray is an act to speak to God either in private or in a religious ceremony. The beautiful thing about pray is you can pray at any place and at any time. Pray indicates submission to God’s will and commandments. Prayer is communication with God to seek His blessings, mercy, and happiness. God does not need our worship, praise, and prayers rather we pray for our own good.
We do this by praising Him, confessing our sins before Him, thanking Him, and asking Him for our needs and desires. Prayer is a direct meeting with our Creator and Provider. When we pray, we engage in loving fellowship with the Maker of heavens and earth.
The meaning and goals of pray may vary from person to person or religion to realign. Some people just pray for small things which can grant them momentary happiness, or at least perceived happiness in life.
While many pray for health, wealth, success, or some goal. Some pray for passing an exam, and then one actually pray for a better materialistic life which he thinks he can pursue after clearing his exam. This is just one example I have quoted. Almost all the people on earth think that money is the solution to all their problems and that’s why they pray for money in this or that form.
Like many pious and good-hearted people, I believe that pray is a source of interacting with your Lord and Creator. Many pray only to submit to God’s will and for their personal gratification.
According to Islamic and Christian traditions pray is an act of thanksgiving and gratification. Pray makes us more noble, pious, and spiritual beings.
Practicing religion makes me happy and a good person. Growing in virtue and doing good deeds fulfills me. Communing with a divine figure like God provides comfort and meaning to my spirit, even if that spirit is entirely metaphorical.
I pray when I am happy and when I am hit hard by life. I remember my Lord on good days and also remember Him on bad days. That is frequent.
Sometimes tragedy makes me grateful. That’s harder to explain, but the sentiment is similar. I pray when I’m uncertain also. After discussing matters with any relevant parties, and doing anything I can in the real world, I will go to God and talk about my worries or my wishes — knowing, at all times, that he knows better than me, and I need only rest in Him.
In short, I pray for the same reasons I always prayed. I pray at the same times, for the same reasons, and generally in the same ways as I did when I believed.
Praying is an indicator that God exists, God loves, God listens and fulfills our prayers, sometimes He does grant our wishes a bit later but I believe He does. I know that I don’t. But praying and behaving as though God exists fulfills me, so I act in a manner that befits God.
